Do you know what Pizza Express has done to their menu to make it more vegan friendly?
Pizza Express: before
I wrote about Pizza Express a while ago. Back then, I was raving about them then because all their bases were 'vegan by accident!' Thus many of their pizzas could be veganised if we removed the cheese and made sure that all the toppings were vegan. Here's my first review about Pizza Express
About a year ago, Pizza Express got about providing vegan cheese by allowing customers to bring a sealed pack of the cheese of their choice. The chef would simply use what was needed and return the rest to the customer.
Pizza Express: now
The bases remain 'vegan by accident,' but Pizza Express now has vegan cheese, and they have one specifically marked vegan pizza on their menu. This pizza is called the Vegan Giardiniera. It includes artichokes, closed cup mushrooms, red onions and black olives, with tomato, a vegan alternative for mozzarella, garlic oil, and fresh parsley. This is their new recipe. The previous one was made up of artichokes, asparagus, red onion, garlic oil, black olives and seasoning on a classic dough and passata base. I preferred this one, The asparagus made the pizza absolutely delicious!
The sweet stuff
I'm not usually a fan of sorbet but Pizza Express has introduced a coconut dessert which is so moreish! It's creamy, has the right amount of sweetness, and is made with coconut milk and coconut shavings.
Vegans can now have a three-course meal at Pizza Express. Other mainstream Italian restaurants where vegans can have a three-course meal include Zizzi's and ASK Italian. And the latest from Pizza Hut is that they will be trialling vegan cheese for about eight weeks in Bluewater, Canterbury, Chatham, Crawley and Thanet.
Have you tried the vegan options at any of these restaurants yet? If you have, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Share your experience by commenting on this article or getting in touch using the details here.
