Find out how vegan friendly Daal Roti has become!
Why did my first visit to Daal Roti, in Stanmore, make me so enthused?
Daal Roti's menu was vast when we popped in for the time in April 2017. The restaurant is pure vegetarian (no eggs), and the menu included many options that could be veganised, or were vegan by accident. Suraj and I chose a couple of items that we wanted, we had a backup plan in mind, in case they weren't/couldn't be made vegan, and we asked the waitress about them. Ordering was easy. The waitress understood what vegan meant, and she had a good idea about what the dishes contained, so it didn't take long to place our order. It was just as well because I was hangry really needed to eat soon!
I thoroughly enjoyed the Daal shown in the photo above. The oil that you can on top is a chilli and garlic oil, which made the Daal absolutely delicious! That, combined with the bread, was enough to make me feel thoroughly satisfied.
Soon after, one of the owners came out to speak with us. He showed me a draft copy of their new menu, which clearly marked which items are vegan. It also stated that main meals containing paneer could be made with soya chunks to make it vegan. How exciting!
We had a chat about the menu over the next few weeks after, which gave them a few additions/amendments to consider. I was grateful for being given the opportunity to assist.
Our next visit to Daal Roti
The next time we went to Daal Roti, both of us were hungry, and we had decided to go there beforehand. The first visit was more of a 'what's the closest place where we can get vegan food, so that Heena feels better?' It was clearly meant to be! We've been twice or more since that visit!
The second time we popped in, the menu had been finalised and printed, and ordering was even easier than it was before. I couldn't go without ordering what we had on our first visit, but we tried some different items too. Another great meal!
Be prepared to wait
The last time we popped in was one evening on a weekday, and the restaurant was packed! Luckily, we got a table and didn't have to wait, but what I want to convey is, don't assume they'll have space. If you're making a special trip, it's worth booking a table.
