Meet Hsuan, who creates ethical clothing with awesome messages
I found out that Hsuan Lin was going to be at VegFest and I couldn't wait to meet her. She had a warm, fun and compassionate way about her, which came through in her emails and her t-shirt designs. She sold out of some of her creations so quickly, that I didn't even get to see them! However, I ended up getting three of them for myself! Naturally, the next step was to write this, so that she can tell you about her vegan business, Bazaar De Luxe.
What does Bazaar De Luxe specialise in selling?
Bazaar de Luxe is a t-shirt brand. It stands for a young, wild and free lifestyle without the use of animal derived products. The brand offers a collection of t-shirts with personal vegan-minded prints. Our products are organic, ethically certified and the result is premium quality clothing. With every item sold, we happily donate a percentage to an animal welfare project.
Where is Bazaar De Luxe based?
Bazaar de Luxe is a Belgium based brand.
Are your products accessible globally?
Our goal is to have worldwide selling points and worldwide shipping. However, at the moment we ship to neighbouring countries.
What inspired you to create a business that solely focuses on vegan clothing?
After becoming vegan I felt the need to spread the vegan message. I wanted to highlight a vegan lifestyle in the fashion world because I'm very passionate about fashion. I am aware of the dirt behind the fashion business, and whilst I didn't want to be involved in the dark side of fashion, I knew there was a place for combining veganism and fashion. This is what gave me the idea of creating Bazaar de Luxe.
How easy is it for you to source cruelty free ingredients for your products?
There are endless choices in t-shirts, but there's only a small percentage that are sustainable.
The garment industry is evolving. The choice of ecological materials is growing, which is great for Bazaar de Luxe, as we only use ethical and environmental responsible certified garments.
The print-ink we use is water-based and we only use biodegradable products during the printing process.
Do these ingredients effect the outcome in comparison with non vegan clothing?
The fashion industry has a very large ecological footprint. Consciously choosing what we wear definitely has an impact on our future and fair wear clothing helps many people attain a better living.
Is Bazaar De Luxe owned by, or in partnership with, another company that tests on animals or sells non-vegan products?
Bazaar de Luxe is an independent company, which is 100% vegan, that was founded by a simple girl with a dream that all animals will be free.
Tell me a bit about yourself before you launched Bazaar De Luxe?
I'm one of the lucky kids who got raised vegetarian and had a lot of compassion for animals. During my university years, I worked at my sister's vegan restaurant, which made me more conscious about the dark side of wool, leather, dairy, eggs, processed food, etc. I got exposed to so much information, it felt like I had been blind to so much until now! After a while, it was only natural for me to shift from a vegetarian lifestyle to a fully vegan one.
Working with my sister was the best learning I could have had.
Every time we made a 'meat-eater' happy with vegan food, we felt so much satisfaction.
This is what I want to do, through my t-shirts. I want to spread veganism in a positive way.
What is your vision for the future of Bazaar De Luxe?
Fashion is one of the most powerful tools to express your beliefs to the world. Introducing animal-free fashion with an attitude is my ultimate goal. I hope to satisfy customers worldwide, while they happily wear my refreshing vegan designs.
Wearing a t-shirt with a strong statement is a way to express yourself and spread the vegan message in a cool way.
